'sitting with his neighbor under the vine'

    Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone (Planet Earth) shall be seven eyes (Continents): behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD YHWH of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree. (Zechariah 3:8-10)

<Memorize for ProVision>

But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house (Habitat) of the LORD YHWH shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD YHWH, and to the house of the God (ELOHEM) of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law (TORAH) shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD YHWH from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.(Micah 4:1-4 See also Isaiah 2:1-5)

The vision that the Prophet Micah records presents a extremely good Vision Statement. (See ProVision above.)

The following description of the ProVision Statement illustrates the connection we make: the lower text presents instructions for writing a Vision Statement, and the ALL CAPS presents the ProVision given to the Prophets Isaiah and Micah.

The vision delivers an idealistic view of what business will be like after the project is completed. A well-written vision statement should make the project beneficiaries want the project's outcomes. BUT IN THE LAST DAYS IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT THE MOUNTAIN OF THE HABITAT OF YHWH SHALL BE ESTABLISHED IN THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAINS, AND IT SHALL BE EXALTED ABOVE THE HILLS, AND PEOPLE SHALL FLOW UNTO IT. AND MANY NATIONS SHALL COME, AND SAY, COME, AND LET US GO UP TO THE MOUNTAIN OF THE LORD YHWH, AND TO THE HOUSE OF THE GOD (ELOHEM) OF JACOB. This is certainly an idealistic statement of what business will be like AFTER the project is completed.

Why is this important?

A vision statement provides focus and direction for the project. It should be a statement that "sells" the project outcomes to the impacted stakeholders. It can serve as a reference and rallying point during the life of the project to test whether the project is on track. AND HE WILL TEACH US OF HIS WAYS, AND WE WILL WALK IN HIS PATHS: FOR THE LAW (TORAH) SHALL FORTH OF ZION, AND THE WORD OF THE LORD YHWH FROM JERUSALEM, AND HE SHALL JUDGE AMONG MANY PEOPLE, AND REBUKE STRONG NATIONS AFAR OFF; AND THEY SHALL BEAT THEIR SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES, AND THEIR SPEARS INTO PRUNINGHOOKS: This statement provides focus and direction for the project, and "sells' the project to impacted stakeholders.

Input from a cross-section of stakeholders is used to develop the vision statement. The vision statement is short - a few sentences at most. It is written to be meaningful to both project team members and stakeholders. The vision statement should say how things will be better once the project is completed.  "NATION SHALL NOT LIFT UP A SWORD AGAINST NATION, NEITHER SHALL THEY LEARN WAR ANY MORE." The two previous short statements refer to input and outcome of the project that is meaningful to both project team members and stakeholders; and this statement provides benefit and improvement in the life of a very large cross-section of stakeholders.

How to scale

Large projects require broader vision statements. This usually occurs because large projects address a more diverse set of clients, stakeholders and business processes. Consider developing statements of vision from the perspective of various major stakeholder groups. This will promote greater "buy-in" and ownership in the project's outcomes. BUT THEY SHALL SIT EVERY MAN UNDER HIS VINE AND UNDER HIS FIG TREE; AND NONE SHALL MAKE THEM AFRAID: FOR THE MOUTH OF THE LORD YHWH OF HOST HATH SPOKEN IT. The VINE AND FIG TREE represent ownership. This statement says two things, every one should buy into this project, and everyone will benefit from its completion.
